Cedar Waxwings Bathing

Bombycilla cedrorumDay two of winter. Can spring be far behind? (No shadows of the waxwing slain here.)

Yes, a little bit of last spring and perhaps a forecast of the next. Now, Cedar Waxwings are not unknown this time of year, but they are irregular, meaning you never know.

I’ll be presenting a slide-show lecture on NYC’s wildernesses at Brooklyn Brainery on the evening of January 11, 2017. These events sell-out quickly, so sign-up ASAP.

And now for something completely irregular. Why not an eight-judge Supreme Court? It’s good enough for the Republicans, who argued against all precedent that Obama was a lame duck and so shouldn’t be allowed to get a nominee even to a vote in the Senate. Juan Cole argues that Trump, who lost the popular vote by nearly three million votes, will be a lame duck from day one. The “threat” here is that the GOP will take away the filibuster (absurdly known as the “nuclear option” amongst the hysterical millionaires of the Senate). Fine, it’s worth losing for something the Democrats have spent the last forty years insisting they would defend at all costs: the Supreme Court. Not one fucking inch, me hearties!
