A mewling squirrel brought this Red-tailed Hawk to my attention.
They were in the same tree, which provided much more protection for the mammal than the open ground.
Unsuccessful there, the hawk spent some time on an angel’s wing.

Yes, it does seem like it’s right out of central casting… but the hawks do perch on the monuments, statues, and mausoleums all the time. I have to say the one that got away from me some years ago was an American Kestrel perched on another funereal angel. The angel was pointing upwards, as they are wont to do, and The little falcon was on the upraised finger! But it flew before I even had my camera raised.
