American Woodcocks (Scolopax minor) are back in town! This one in Green-Wood was pointed out to us by a fellow birder on Saturday; also, a correspondent had one in her back yard in Park Slope the other day.
If you were following this blog last year at this time, there were some up-close moments with these plump timberdoodles.
As low-flying creatures, Woodcock seem to hit things on their journey through the urban labyrinth. The Wild Bird Fund bird rescue operation on the Upper West Side gets a fair amount of these guys this time of year.
Here’s some general information on window-collisions you may find helpful.
Note: I’ll be alternating local and temperate rain forest goodness in the coming days, since I still have a number of Oregon photos to share.
