How many Groundhog/Woodchucks are there in Brooklyn? We saw three the other day.
These two were munching near a burrow now completely covered by understory growth. The second pictured here was rather smaller than the first, so perhaps it was a youngster. The third of the day’s Whistlepigs was some distance away.

I’ve been taking a longer walk to the subway lately, along the Broadway side of Fort Tryon Park. I’ve seen as many as seven woodchucks in one day, around 6:30 am, grazing in the mowed lawns.

You must have seen skunks up there, too? That’s one city mammal I’ve never seen.
