Lord of All He Surveys

Our old friend the American Kestrel (Falco sparverius). That made for sightings three weekends in a row.

  1. I was walking down Court Street a couple of days ago and 3rd and heard a bird screech that was noteworthy. When I looked up I saw a kestrel. That’s the first time I’ve seen one in my neighborhood. Usually I see Cooper’s hawks.

    1. Kestrels are the most common NYC raptor, nesting particularly in old cornice cavities. But since they’re so small and fast, they don’t get much attention.
