Spring’s sprung

Spring officially started early this morning, but it’s been bursting out for more than a month now. These pictures are from last week in the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

    Hi Matthew,

    What’s the spadix in the 3rd picture?

    I saw my first skunk cabbage flower in NJ last weekend – the actual flowers on the spadix rather than the spathe.

    Hope to see you around now that I’m getting out more.

      I’m sure we’ll run into each other.

      This is actually the strobilius of Tall Scouring Rush, Equisetum hyemale, which reproduce by spore. The park’s blog recently profiled this horsehair http://www.brooklynbridgeparknyc.org/preview/95982788-b068-494b-b44c-4262f09b8098
