Bald-faced Hornet licking the stonework. Getting salts and minerals?


Also, licking forelegs to groom antennae. Like a cat!

The grooming wasp was spotted Saturday in the sun. This nest was seen Sunday, with at least one wasp hanging around still.

Great photos! I have to admit you are pretty brave to get that close to the hornet nest!

A telephoto lens kept me about five feet away. But they were so intently going in and out and up and away, I was well away from the stream of them.

Fussy but feisty as well. Been stung enuf times to keep my distance (and more than five feet if I can help it).
