These shiny red leaves are Nyssa sylvatica, Black Tupelo or Black Gum. One of the great fall color trees.

One gorgeous branch of oak leaves near the parking lot entrance to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden – wish I could attach a photo!
The fallen leaves are coating the paved running trail I use, so I’ve been slip sliding in color this fall. (Watch out for the hidden walnuts!)
