Here’s a variation on a common sight: a young Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura).
Note how much darker it is than an adult. You might almost want to make it another species, although there aren’t really any other options on this end of the country.

Not at all fond of their cooing. There used to be a lot of them nesting in the alleyway of my building on 17th Street. They can be heard around the house here in the country, but much less. Thank god.
