Bobolink (Dolichonyx oryzivorus) perching at Marine Park Nature Center. This is the adult, non-breeding plumage. The species migrates to southern South America. Like many grassland species, its numbers are dropping because of habitat loss.

Beautiful photo of an exquisite bird. I’ve never seen one of these guys.

Breeding male quite a different look. Look for them in fields and farmlands during breeding season. I only saw my first a few years ago on a trip to Massachusetts. But then there was a male in Prospect Park this spring during migration.

I saw some of the males for the first time late this past spring. But the females look like a totally different bird (not surprisingly, of course) and they are just stunning! Thanks for sharing!

This could be a non-breeding male, though. Once they molt, they seem to look rather alike during the non-breeding season.
