Found, like this, on University Place yesterday. A male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapitcus varius). You almost never see the yellow-tinged belly from a distance.

Quite a find. And yes a great view of the underbelly. Oddly, I just posted about a dead bird, a Cedar Waxwing. But no rose.

Didn’t know you could see birds other than sparrows at
University Place. Will pay more attention and look for them
next time.-
Washington Square Park will attract all sorts of birds to the neighborhood.
