Memento Mori

Sphyrapitcus variusFound, like this, on University Place yesterday. A male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapitcus varius). You almost never see the yellow-tinged belly from a distance.

    Quite a find. And yes a great view of the underbelly. Oddly, I just posted about a dead bird, a Cedar Waxwing. But no rose.

    You almost never catch sight of them clutching a rose, either…!

    Didn’t know you could see birds other than sparrows at
    University Place. Will pay more attention and look for them
    next time.
