Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) about to pop. The flowers emerge up and down the branches, and the trunk, in advance of the leaves, making the pink-flowered trees look particularly intense.

Gorgeous! I love redbuds and miss them dearly. Too far north here.

Some of the blossoms were open on the one in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden last week. Gorgeous, of course!

The redbuds are in full bloom here in Kansas City. Another week and they’ll be in decline, and then the lovely green leaves will come out. (But what the hell is that big orange thing in the sky that’s making my runs so miserable?)

Already too hot? Last week they still had snow on the ground straight north of you…, well, by several hundred miles.

85 degrees today, but snow in the forecast for Friday. When my daughter moved to Brooklyn a few years ago, these things happened quickly: a tornado, and earthquake, and a hurricane (now two). I was about to say I envy your mild weather, but I won’t.
