Six species of birds under the feeders in Prospect Park. The large sparrow here, second bird down from the top, is a Fox Sparrow (Passerella iliaca).
This is one of the birds that visit us during the winter months from their breeding grounds in the boreal forests. We never get too many, but there should usually be a few about. 
Thick rufus streaks underneath, a rufus tail and wings, and gray head mark this bird from the rest of the Emberizine family of sparrows (the common House Sparrow is not a member of this New World family.)

They are on Breeze Hill, are maintained by members of the Brooklyn Bird Club, and usually come down in the spring.

I haven’t seen one of those in a long time. Used to get them here. Just white crown and tree now, of the natives. They are a handsome sort.
