Hardest working birds in show business, the Northern Mockingbird. Here one goes after a young (note pink mouth) Common Raven. And here’s another going after another member of the family of five waterfront Common Ravens. Ravens are about the size of Red-tailed Hawks. Mockingbirds chase Red-tails, too.
Even without the raven a mockingbird will put on a great show. I watched one sing it’s heart out for several minutes atop a building then fly up about ten feet doing flips and turns that would make an Olympic gymnast or diver envious. Then it landed on the same perch and began singing again. It was quite a show and it repeated several times. Definitely an eye-catcher. Those white patches in the wings and tail flashed brilliantly in bright sun and had to be visible for miles.
