Understory Oaks

Beneath a big spruce, protected from the mowers, five sprouts from acorns of what I assume is the nearby mature Northern Red Oak.

    They’re just waiting for a storm to open a hole in the canopy!
    Those baby Oaks (and pines and…) can be so very patient!

    I don’t think you knew him, but our community just lost Donald Schall. Former director of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and current president of the Cape Cod and Islands Botany Club.

      I did not know him. I know the Cape and Islands (one of them intimately), have some wonderful natural history.
