A silhouette on a hazy day
… a bird on the head of all-seeing Justice atop Brooklyn Borough Hall. My first thought: probably a pigeon, yet this looked too upright for that. My view from below on the street could account for that angle, of course, but there were, notably, no other pigeons in evidence. Ah-ha, the pigeons’ ancient enemy? So I pulled my camera from my bag to see if I could get a better view and confirmation or denial.
Even with the less than fine details visible through the lens, and the terrible lighting, the hooded head and stripped chest are the great avian thunderbolt’s calling cards. Peregrine falcon, Falco peregrines.
Don’t walk around blindfolded, always keep your eyes open. (And since it’s Borough Hall, a.k.a. Boodle Hall, keep your eyes on the money!)

I found a pigeon wing on the sidewalk there near Borough Hall yesterday – probably the remnant of a successful hunt.

Or perhaps a sign of the Borough President…
