The mammal’s eye. Some bird seed encouraged this one to get closer. Three others grazed the yard.
That’s a rabbit-blood-bloated tick on the ear there.
The flash gave it a red-eye effect like a wild sunset. As if it was guarding the Cave of Caerbannog. “Oh, it’s just a harmless little ‘bunny’ isn’t it?”

Great shots!

PS: Is that a tick behind the ear?

Yes.

Thanks. They’ve gotten tamer and tamer since the family cat passed on to his greater reward, and the chicken, who covets the bird seed, isn’t a killer.

Beautiful, Matthew! Wonderful intimate look at wild rabbit turned demon bunny.
Hate those damn ticks. Esau picked up quite a few after a couple of days on South Fork of Long Island. Was this on Nantucket?

Yes, on that other island, Tick World Center USA.

If I had a tick that size on my ear, I’d probably become a killer rabbit, too. Love the wild sunset shot!

It had fangs, didn’t it?
