This is the first American Coot I can recall being on Sylvan Water. And it has stuck around. Managed to use the cover of the pond-side mausoleums to sneak up on the bird.

Four Hooded Merganser and a pair of Buffleheads on Sylvan Water recently. Not-Mallards are pretty skittish, but this one was forced closer to the shore because of ice. Taking off to other end of pond, had enough of humans. Northern Shoveler at an inaccessible part of the Brooklyn shoreline.

Fourth visit to Red-headed Woodpecker town. Happy New Year! (Unlikely, but….)

Three of a flock that just kept getting bigger as they scooted out of the way of a low-flying Red-tailed Hawk.

It’s been a good Raptor Season for Red-shouldered Hawks.
