Mud and I’ll bet that’s horsehair, since there’s a horse ranch right next door to Third House Nature Center in Montauk. This land was the first cattle ranch in the US, which was news to me. And at one point it was a dude ranch!
There were no swallows around, but evidence suggests this was a busy nest this year.
