This is impressive. Peter Kuper’s exploration of the history of entomology and the history of insects is definitely worth your perusal. The latter, at 400 million years, is a bit older than the several centuries of the former, of course.
It’s a great offering for the insectophobes in your life.
As a bonus, it’s also an illustrated love letter to the New York Public Library research building. I forget which plutocrat has his name on it now, but I mean of course the one with the lions at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue. The rich collections of that institution inform the book (and its illustrations).
