Goldenrod Galls

My rain-delayed Torrey Botanical Society gall walk in Green-Wood takes place tomorrow, but I’ve not had good luck finding galls on goldenrod there.

Above is one of the Asphondylia gall midges, I think, on Northern Seaside Goldenrod /Solidago sempervirens out at Arverne East Nature Preserve on the Rockaway Peninsula.

Goldenrod Bunch Gall Midge/Rhopalomya solidaginis (maybe) on an unknown goldenrod at Fort Tilden.

Goldentop Sessile Gall Midge/Rhopalomyia fusiformae on Flat-topped Goldenrod/Euthamia graminifolia. Spotted last weekend at Montauk, out on the eastern edge of Long Island. I was not familiar with this gall, but one glance at it told me to look it up.

And this may be a Rhopalomyia midge ovipositing on Northern Seaside Goldenrod at Bush Terminal Park.
