Mammal Monday

In the Whiteness of the Whale chapter of Moby Dick, Melville asks, “Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?”

Looks like a leucistc target for the young hawks to use in practice. The dark, not pink eyes preclude albinism, but the hawklets won’t care.

Seen a white squirrel near my house. A couple of years ago. Also, always nice to see a Moby-Dick reference!

Are the squirrels’s eyes the pink/red of many albinos.
