Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Brooklyn Birds

Hooded Warbler, spent some time subduing a moth.
American Redstart male
Rose-breasted Grosbeak female.
Male Rose-breasted.
Wood Thrush
Lots of Catbirds around, but this was the only one I saw without a tail.
White-crowned Sparrow
Prothonotary (ages since I’ve seen one).
Good opportunity to compare with a Yellow Warbler…
