S is for Salamanders

A magnificent example of the Eastern Red-backed Salamander (Plethodon cinereus) seen on Staten Island recently.
Here’s a more subtle one, with some neighboring woodlice.
And a young example of the lead-backed form.

On Sundays, I often pass the plate for donations to help support this blog, but there are more pressing matters now: supporting local women’s reproductive health centers via the National Network of Abortion Funds. (Here’s why this is more effective than funding Planned Parenthood or NARAL.)
