Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.
As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”
Raptor Wednesday
Coopers! An hour after seeing the Coopers I was thinking to myself that I hadn’t seen a single Red-tailed Hawk. Then I saw this silhouette. Buteo all-over, but, frankly, even high up in a Tuliptree it looked a little small.Well, well, well! A Red-shouldered Hawk. And not only that, but an adult one. (The immatures are rather similar to young Red-tails.) First I’ve seen this winter, which so far has been spent entirely within the narrow confines of Brooklyn. Checks notes: didn’t even see one during fall raptor migration.
