  1. My backyard, in the southern-tier of N.Y., are 12 beautiful mourning doves, flocking/feeding on seed under the bird feeder. Almost pink in this early light.

    1. They do like to herd. A nearby fire-escape facing the morning sun here often has up to twenty Mourning Ds on it.

    Have only seen fox sparrows once up here in Westchester. I was struck by their size and distinctive markings. Handsome birds.
    Your posts really make me wish I could get out more.
