Beeches

Fagus orientalis, Oriental Beech, newly planted in Green-Wood.
,Fagus sylvatica, the European Beech and the one most likely in your park (at least in this town). Also the source of the weeping, cooper, purple, cut-leaf, et cetera, varieties.
Fagus grandiflora, American beech. Note the teeth on the leaves, probably the best way to distinguish these from the imported species.
Grandiflora also has larger leaves. Anyway, look at this youngster! Could outlive us all…
