Breakout!

Just-emerged dog-day cicadas. Two neighboring beeches had four of the creatures between them, with eleven more already-abandoned exuviae. They really stick out on beech trunks.
Let’s follow this one for a minute or thirty:
After 30 minutes, I was defeated by mosquitos biting my arms and fingers (the worst!).
Here’s another further up the tree during the same time span.
Gotta get those wings puffed out.

Looks like we’ll be just to the west of hurricane Henri today unless it veers our way. Hatches are battened. Hope you’re all safe.

    I love seeing the progress of the cicada emerging. Listening to cicadas is the perfect summer soundtrack.
