Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Odonata Update

Calico Pennant (Celithemis elisa), first I’ve seen in Brooklyn.
Citrine Forktail (Ischnura hastata), the fourth I’ve seen in a decade.
Rambur’s Forktail (Ischnura ramburii) munching on a small flying insect.
Efferia robber fly with captured Ischnura prey.
