We have an immature Black-crowned Night-Heron at the 103rd St. pool stalking, catching and eating House Sparrows. Didn’t know this was on the menu. It swallows birds the same way it does fish, head first, feathers and all. I imagine it coughs up a pellet later, but who ever heard of a heron pellet?
    Strange bird!

Close, but no cigar. Common ancestor for birds and dinosaurs. See Riddle of the Feathered Dragons by Alan Feduccia.
