Backyard and Beyond 
We don’t often have the priveledge of seeing the nictating membrane, a.k.a. third eyelid. It protects the bird’s eye in high dust or high speed situations. I guess it also can serve as a kind of avian sunglasses while parked on a fence. Birds have a lot of good tools.
