Oxyura jamaicensis

A lot of Canada geese on and around Sylvan Water.
But just one female Ruddy Duck.

If you want Ruddy Ducks come to the reservoir in Central Park. Still at least 50 on the water. Also a Greater White-fronted Goose mixed in with about 150 Canada Geese on the Lake. Throw in a handful if Northern Shovelers and a few American Coots and you get a pretty good show.

Wonder if this is a matter of size? Prospect Lakes usually has a good accompaniment of Ruddy Ds, Northern Shovelers, etc. Green-Wood’s waters usually only attract a few ducks, single specimens, sometimes pairs. Usually aren’t even Mallards about.
