Red-breasted Grosbeak foraging for beech nuts.
This is a female. The yellow underwings underline that.
Males are pinkish-red under there. This one and several others are scarfing up dogwood fruits.

    Hello Matthew!  Are the bottom pictures a juvenile male? Or is that non-breeding plumage?  Thank you for your continued offerings of natural beauty and righteous rage with practical advice.  Karen

      Hey, Karen! A mature male, I think. Not a first winter male, but I don’t know the plumage patterns here. Never seen so many as this fall. The same Cornus was hopping with them yesterday again; pics to come.
