Green-Wood has been virtually empty of birds this winter, but last weekend I came across a bundle of them all in the same patch. Flock yes! Brown Creeper, first sighting this winter.
Golden-crowned Kinglet. Spotted a Ruby Crowned elsewhere as well.
Not one but two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers on the same trunk.
Two Northern Flickers.
Only one White-breasted Nuthatch, though, the only I’ve heard/seen this winter. I heard it long before I saw it and kept looking…
In the same area, a convention hall evidently, were Fox Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, and Dark-eyed Juncos, too. Usual suspects, but also scarce this winter.
Noisy American Goldfinch were overhead, and among them, a European Goldfinch, an escaped convict of the pernicious pet trade.
Central Park has had few birds too. I saw a young Red-headed Woodpecker yesterday.
