Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

Second Round

This is the second round of young American Robins in this nest this year. The first brood fledged in the middle of May. At this rate, there’s time for a third brood. The parent bird is holding an unripened mulberry.Another bird on the same day, June 22nd, with the more traditional earthworm.

  1. The phoebe who built her mud nest on the side of my Ozark cabin is currently fledging her second brood for this season. In past years, she’s fledged as many as four broods. Same nest year to year, but I wonder if it’s the same phoebe.

    1. Four broods! That’s the hardest working phoebe in showbiz.
