The pictures of this tree’s bark this morning stirred up some interest, so:
here are some more clues.
Winter tree ID: I took a whole class once, but I’m stumped here.

The photos this morning showed orange inner bark, suggesting Morus. But these evening photos look more like Prunus. Are these the same tree? Did you look under the tree for fallen leaves?

Yes, same tree. Yes, the smoothness of the bark high up and on the smaller branches do have a very “cherry” look to them. No leaves to note.
