  1. Norway maple, invasive. I believe Canada’s flag has a red maple, no? Could be sugar, but the flag’s maple is literally red…

    1. Yup, Norway. Tar spots will hit all sorts of maple species.

      The stylized maple leaf on the Canadian flag is described only as a maple leaf — http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/ceem-cced/symbl/df6-eng.cfm — a bunch of maple species produce sugar, but it’s the sugar maple that’s most famous, and, I think, the only one commercially tapped.
