A few days after coming across a young Cooper’s Hawk eating a pigeon, I heard about the remains of a young Cooper’s Hawk in the very same place. Of course I had to go over to check it out.

So who might have plucked and eaten a Cooper’s Hawk? Another Cooper’s Hawk is not out of the question; there’s been an adult in the same area recently, doubtlessly drawn by the twin attractions of flocking pigeons and a whole mess of Monk Parakeets. I suppose a Red-tailed Hawk could have done it as well. Great Horned Owl, however, seems unlikely because at night a Cooper’s would be tucked into a tree somewhere, not out and about.
