On June 8th, I walked by the American Kestrel nest where I had seen three nestlings the previous Thursday. There was no sign of activity.

Within the cemetery, I soon found this female fledgling. This is the same oak I found the fledglings in last year, on June 7, 2024. It is one of the nearest big trees to the nest.

In another tree nearby, there were three male fledglings.

Last year’s count was also 3 males and one female. (I don’t know if I missed anybody this time, or last time, for that matter; that first oak is tall and well-leafed!)

Both the poppa…

and the momma were around as well.

Here she is again, flying in some prey. She took it to the male fledgling tree and then flew off, I believe to encourage the young’uns to follow. They didn’t while I was there.
