When I first moved to Sunset Park, this great industrial smokestack was frequently the perching place of Peregrine Falcons. Then Red-tailed Hawks took it over. On March 29th, I saw from a distance a Common Raven up there. Haven’t seen a Red-tail up there since.

On March 30th, I saw Raven with food flying towards the general direction of the smokestack. That, and few other clues I’d picked up, suggested there might be a nest in the area.

Look who I spotted on a building near the ‘stack. I circled the long block and the bird was up there the whole time. Very suggestive.

This time of year, when the birds aren’t out foraging they’re likely to be near the nest-site. How about up there amid telecom central?
Last year, the old warehouse building on the edge of the bay which housed a raven nest for years was demolished. Luckily, the deconstruction was after breeding season. I wondered where the birds would go next.

Wednesday I found out. Like the original nest site, this one is also visible from my apartment.

Well, barely. The bird that was on the railing is now on the nest in this shot.
