Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Raptor Wednesday Supplemental

Recently, I’ve seen this male American Kestrel with songbird, dragonfly, and mantis prey. Here he has a lizard, picked off the ground along with some grasses.

These introduced lizards have become a major source of food for our local Kestrels.

Tuesday’s disaster will be a disaster for the environment and biodiversity like it will everything else in our lives. Seventy-one million fascists in America have gotten their monster-king. (On the plus side, 255 million of us did not vote for the sleaze-messiah.)

  1. It is all very depressing. Hard to believe the trees voted for the ax.

I was also looking forward to seeing that criminal actually be held accountable for his crimes. I guess all of that will magically disappear.

  2. I am glad I voted even though my choice didn’t win. Let’s keep the public eye and voice of the people strongly vigilent to protect the people’s rights for all of us.

  3. I thought I left a comment yesterday, but it seems it did not stay. I am beyond depressed that so many people prefer a conman who would never pass an HR review for a civilian job.
