Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Monarch Monday

Again with the Monarchs? Absolutely!

This one was laying eggs on September 19th, which is late in the season if you ask me.

I found nine eggs, some right after she laid them.

This was unusual: three eggs on the underside of the same leaf. Usually I see one egg per plant; sometimes two on the same plant, but not usually on the same leaf. I’m not sure if this particular butterfly laid any or all of these.
