Sphaerophoria genus fly

Mediterranean Katydid/Phaneroptera nana nymph

Greater Anglewing/Microcentrum rhombifolium nymph

Carolinian Elegant/Meromacrus acutus–a wasp-mimicking fly usually found further south. This is the second NY state iNat observation, the first being seen a bit further up the Hudson two days earlier.

Emerald Jumping Spider/Paraphidippus aurantius (honorary “bug”)

Twice-stabbed Stink Bugs/Cosmopepla lintneriana

Villa genus fly.

Inactive Polistes nest.

Incomplete Yellow-legged Mud-dauber Wasp/Sceliphron caementarium nest. Inside public bathroom, facilities which have also hosted the mud-nests of Common Blue Mud-dauber Wasp/Chalybion californicum and Eumenes genus potter wasps. A perpetually open window and gaps in the window frame fan allow them all in an out, laden with mud balls and spider prey.

It isn’t only interior habitat. This is one of two mudpot nests of Eumenes potter wasps on the outer door frame header. There are two main Eumenes possibilities around here, so that could be as many as four species of wasp nesting in or near here.
