Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Yum!

Now, this Yellow Warbler could be a local. They breed in Brooklyn. Or is it an early migrant? Either way, it’s just finished off an insect in the first image.
Same place, around a blooming panicle hydrangea aswarm with pollinators, a young Eastern Kingbird, probably born nearby, is dispatching a Virginia Carpenter Bee.
