Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

Takes All Sorts

One Mallard duckling seems to have made it. Out of at least six. (Presuming this was the same family on the Sylvan Water.)
Bee-mimic robber fly (Laphria) continues the fuzzy theme.
Pignut hickory, nut and husk, pierced by exiting larval something, perhaps a nut weevil.
Warbling Vireo watching a passing wasp.
