Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.
As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”
Mud Chambers
I’ve spotted much more evidence of Organ-pipe Mud Daubers (Trypoxylon politum) than I’ve ever seen of the actual wasps here in Brooklyn. The porticos of Green-Wood’s mausoleums, behind the columns, are a great place to look, but then this cloaked urn suggests you never really know where they’ll build their mud nests.
