Backyard and Beyond

Starting out from Brooklyn, an amateur naturalist explores our world.

As John Burroughs said, “The place to observe nature is where you are.”

2021, Part II

Going through my blog, I noticed I never posted about this Ruby-throated Hummingbird nest here in Brooklyn this summer. Where the devil are my manners?

Two bills in there. Others saw three. Yes, that’s an American Sweetgum tree. These birds, these nests, these youngsters, are tiny.

Wow! You must have scoured that tree long and hard to find this sweet shot. I assume you already knew hummies nested in sweetgums. I have several, but have not put my long lens or binoculars to them yet (lazy).

    Kudos!
