I will be leading two Listening Tours this spring:
The first is Sunday, April 29th for Proteus Gowanus.
The second is Saturday, May 12, for NYC Wildflower Week/Nature Block Party. (Register here.)
Both tours start at 6 a.m. at the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park. Yes, you read that right: 6:00 a.m. sharp. We walk with the rising sun and the awakened birds. The Tour goes like this: we walk silently through the park with our electronic gizmos turned off listening to the sounds of nature (and, being in the middle of Brooklyn, other sounds as well) for about an hour and a half. The tour is a walking meditation, a natural sound concert, and a re-awakening of our often-abused urban ears. Last year nearly twenty people turned up to the first one of these, and I think many were quite moved, even transported, by the experience.
On Sunday, May 20, from 1-3, I will be leading an exploration of Four Sparrow Marsh as part of NYC Wildflower Week/Nature Block Party National Urban Biodiversity Week. Please register for this here. More about Four Sparrow Marsh.
There is no charge for any of these tours, and I am volunteering my services for them. If you attend, I hope you will consider a contribution to Proteus Gowanus and/or NYCWW to keep the non-profit world running.
