Bronzebirds

I’ve always loved the bronze birds in the Canal Street A/C/E station. “A Gathering” was created by Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz.There are some crows on top of the ticket booth, and 174 grackles and “blackbirds” (see my next post for more on this slippery word) perched on the metalwork of the mezzanine level. Most could use a good dusting.

Wow, I had no idea! My son loves the subway; maybe we’ll head down there and check them out.

The birds are on the mezzanine level, and I think most can be seen without having to go through the turnstiles. The crows are on top what we used to call the token booth, roughly in the center of the station. Enjoy!
